WHEN THIS YEAR’S Emmy
nominees were announced
on July 16, Julia Louis-
Dreyfus was back in the
race for best actress in
a comedy. She wasn’t
eligible last year since
her successful treatment
for breast cancer forced a
delay in the HBO sitcom’s
production schedule, and
new episodes didn’t air
in time for the show to be
considered. But Julia had
won the award the previous
six years in a row. (The
2018 award went to The
Mar velous Mrs. Maisel’s
Rachel Brosnahan.)
And that’s not the only
Emmy record Julia may
set. Having also won for
Seinfeld and The New
Adventures of Old Christine,
Julia could surpass Cloris
Leachman as the actor
with the most Emmy wins
ever if she takes home a
ninth statuette for the
D.C. satire’s final season.
“This kind of thing doesn’t
happen frequently, and I’m
well aware of the unique
moment that this is,” says
Julia. “I’m kind of stunned
by all of it, to be honest.” Or
as Seinfeld’s Elaine Benes
might have said, “Get out!”
