ON THE COVER
Cruising at the American Graffiti night in
Modesto, California! Thousands and thou-
sands lined the streets to watch the cruise!

You can feel it in the air, you can see
it on the social media. Short clips of guys
warming up their hot rods in the drive-
way, taking short bursts down the neigh-
borhood street! Spring time! All them cold
long months of wrenching on your ride
are over, it’s time to get out and start to
put some miles
on that sucker!
Your throttle
foot is itching,
you’re just
waiting for that
warm, clear day
when you can
back out of the
driveway and go
for a long cruise!
With that in
mind, we bring
you some of the
great car shows
of spring here
in Northern
California. I know a lot of the back east
guys are jealous that we get to break out
our cars a little earlier than them, but then
again gas just went up another 50 cents
a gallon here in California! Ouch! When
you drive a high performance car that only
gets ten miles per gallon, that can really
hit the ol’ wallet hard! But if you’re driving
the right car, it’s worth every penny!
Speaking of putting miles on cars, we’ve
been racking up the miles on BOB, our ‘
Coupe project car! Except for a couple of
minor electrical problems, and an oil leak
I still need to fix, it’s been very reliable!
The American Graffiti cruise night saw
cars overheating and falling by the wayside
all night long, but BOB handled it well.
The big Walker aluminum radiator cools
the V6 with no problem. The ProForm
HEI distributor and Edelbrock carb have
proven to be a winning combination! The
car starts every time and runs great!

Driving the car on the road, it drives
and handles great. The only complaint is
it is a little load inside, and anything over
70MPH and the big, flat radiator buffeting
against the wind is kind of scary! But we
enjoy cruising at 65 or 70, so no big deal.
One morning I came out to the garage
and there was a small puddle at the inside
of the right rear tire. The car had sat for
many years, so I figured the brake wheel
cylinder was leaking. But after pulling off
the tire and brake drum I discovered that
the axle seal was leaking. I was lucky and
caught it early. I put in two new rear axle
seals, but when I pulled the sight plug to
check the gear fluid level I was shocked
to find a chocolate milk-like substance
pouring out of it! Sometime in the cars
life water flooded the rear end and filled it
with water! Geeeesh! Wish I had known
that earlier! An afternoon of pulling out
the axles
and third
member,
cleaned
things up
and put
it all back
together
with fresh
gear lube.
How much
it hurt the
rear end
remains to
be seen, but
at least we
found it with only a couple hundred miles
on the car.
So if you’re attending a Northern
California show, keep your eye open for
BOB and stop to say “HI.” Three shows we
know we’ll be at are; 1)August 23rd, 24th,
& 25th - Friday, Saturday, Sunday - Good-
guys West Coast Nationals - Pleasanton 2)
Sept. 21st - Saturday - Billetproof - An-
tioch, and 3) October 20th - Sunday - A &
W Rootbeer End of Season Show - Lodi,
CA!
