Scania’s new generation XT range of trucks off ers cab, engine and chassis customization to

improve uptime and productivity in rough conditions

D

elivering vehicle solutions for
both the mining and construction
industries has taught us the
true meaning of uptime, and what it
takes to secure it. The performance and
safety features of the XT range provide
the robustness and durability required
to cope with the toughest challenges on
construction sites. Like all Scania vehicles,
the XT range benefi ts from the fl exibility
of our well-known modular system which
enables an array of cab, chassis and engine
confi gurations complemented by a host
of services to ensure the highest uptime,
reliability and profi tability for customers,”
says Ozcan Barmoro, managing director,
Scania Middle East.
The main features of the XT range include
a high tensile steel cab structure, sturdy
one-piece steel bumper, towing capacity of 40
tonnes, headlamp protection, robust mirror
casings, and powertrain and chassis customi-
sation. In addition, improved visibility and a
new aerodynamic design improve both the
driveability and fuel economy of the vehicle.
The XT range off ers a wide range of cabs
with diff erent roof heights and lengths, from
the highest S-series cab with generous living
and resting space to the compact P-series
short day cab which maximises loading ca-
pacity. The chassis specifi cations range from
a fully air suspended two-axle confi guration
with a front underrun protection to a fi ve-
axle leaf suspended off -road chassis specifi ed

for the toughest construction operations.
The engines range from the 9-litre models
to the 16-litre V8, which allows to balance
performance with fuel effi ciency, according to
the applications. The 13-litre engine provides
improved
cooling capacity, engine management, as
well as improved injectors and combustion
chambers.
The 16-litre V8 engine provides higher
torque at lower revs. The brake air compres-
sor and coolant pump are both demand-
driven and only activated when needed.
According to Scania, the 13-litre engine helps
reduce fuel consumption by up to 5% and the
16-litre V8 reduces it by up to 10%.
Scania analyses the business needs of
customers by using the Scania total operating
economy (TOE) calculator, which provides a
breakdown of purchase and operating costs.
Its’ wide range of services include Scania
Maintenance and Scania Repair & Mainte-
nance (as part of Scania Contracted Services),

Scania Maintenance with Flexible Plans
(coming soon), Scania Assistance, Scania
Fleet Management System, Scania Training
& Coaching (part of Scania Driver Services),
Scania Genuine Parts and Scania Financial
Services.
“Profi tability can be achieved through vari-
ous measures. That’s why we don’t believe in
a ‘silver bullet’ solution. Instead, our off erings
are based on two principles: total operating
economy (TOE) and tailor-made applications
(TMA). This helps customers make smart
choices by getting down to the nuts and bolts,
which helps reduce costs as well as increase
revenue to create long-term value that goes
beyond the initial price tag. TMA sums up the
overall way we do business. From the selec-
tion of hardware to smart services, all choices
are made considering the challenges and
costs of daily operations. Thus, we improve
energy effi ciency, payload capacity, environ-
mental performance, fuel economy and much
more,” says Barmoro.
