villages and northern Kenya where sanitation is poor
at best. Since its inception, over 14,000 soap sacks
have been distributed.

The S.A.C.K. website, http://www.soapsacks.com, offers all
the information needed to crochet or knit sacks, as
well as where to donate them. A list of 100% cotton
yarns, a video tutorial by Stacy, and templates for
well-worded hang tags are also provided. Weiner
recently partnered with Premier Yarns, which now
offers S.A.C.K. kits in two colors on their website
(www.premieryarns.com).

This is a simple way to make a healthy difference
in someone’s life (at little cost to the donor) while
making great use of the cotton yarn in your stash!
Visit the S.A.C.K. website, like its Facebook page
(SoapSACK), and find it on Instagram at @soapsacks.

BE INSPIRED & THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!

You don’t need a lot of yarn or many pieces to
make a big impact. One square sent by you to
an organization that accepts piecework may
be the last one needed to complete an afghan
for a grieving military family or a blanket for
a nursing home patient. A short scarf can
be perfect for a child in a homeless shelter.
Combine your efforts with non-yarn charities;
my sister gives out scrap yarn scarves that she
and I crochet as she delivers Meals on Wheels.
Start your own initiative to support a cause
close to your heart by word-of-mouth to other
crocheters. You’ll be amazed at how far that
ball of scrap yarn can go!
