Cold weather can make even the most resilient skin
tetchy. To get winter-skin ready, Cathy Galileos,
head trainer at Sukin, says there are certain
measures we should all adopt before braving the
winter chill. “The combination of cold weather,
wind, central heating and pollution can make skin
sensitive in winter,” Galileos explains. Our fave
takeaway advice? Layer up on nutrient-dense,
yet calming skincare. Here’s what to do.
LAYER UP
Protecting skin against the elements is key during
winter months, and adding a nourishing extra step
to both morning and night routines is your best bet.
“Introducing a serum or a facial oil during winter
restores skin and adds an instant hit of hydration
and nutrients, because they offer the highest
concentration of active ingredients,” advises Galileos.
POLISH AND MASK
When the mercury plummets, skin can become dull,
so it pays dividends to keep skin turning over.
EXFOLIATE
“Be diligent,” says Galileos. “A gentle exfoliant once
a week promotes a healthy complexion by sloughing
off dead skin and increasing cellular regeneration.”
MASK
“A facial mask will gently absorb impurities and
environmental pollutants to leave the skin looking
radiant and clear,” she adds.
INGREDIENT
WATCHLIST
When seeking winter-ready skincare, look for
ingredients high in omegas and antioxidants.
ROSEHIP OIL
Rich in essential fatty acids, this is a great booster
for your cold-weather routine. “It’s deeply nourishing
and a powerful skin rejuvenator,” says Galileos.
VITAMIN E
An antioxidant that ups hydration fast. “This fat-
soluble essential nutrient is anti-inflammatory and
combats the effects of free radicals,” she explains.
CRAMBE OIL
High in omega fatty acids, this oil tackles out-of-sorts
skin. “It conditions and moisturises and is excellent
