As a prestigious note,
during 2018-2019, in
NIRF India Rankings, the
University is ranked 60 in
University category and
94 in Overall category. In
April 2019, the University
was accredited with “A+” Grade with 3.32 CGPA in the 3rd cycle,
by the NAAC.
This University, which is one of the largest Universities in India,
in terms of geographical size and the jurisdiction, has Departments
offering five-year and six-year integrated PG programmes in 11
different disciplines, two-year PG programmes in 37 disciplines,
10 PG Diploma programmes, 10 Diploma programmes besides
14 certificate courses under the Choice Based Credit System
(semester pattern) with adequate flexibility and freedom to the
students at international standards.
As a proudful note, 11 departments are supported with UGC-
SAP and 9 departments are supported with DST-FIST during
the year 2018-19. 72 major research projects were funded during
2018-19 by various funding agencies including UGC, CSIR, DST,
DBT, DAE, DRDO, BRNS, ICSSR and ICMR (12,08,18,433). To
foster global competence among students, the curriculum of all
the programmes have been updated with Current Contours and
Field Projects. To equip the students with job-oriented skills,
Value Added Courses (VAC) have been introduced in all the
Departments.
As an environmentally conscious University, during RUSA –
Phase I, 500 kWp Grid Interactive Solar PV Power Plant and 2
numbers of 50 kWp Roof Top Grid Interactive Solar PV Power
Plants were installed and commissioned. RUSA 2.0 phase
has sanctioned Rs.50 crores in which `15 crore is allocated
for “Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Career Hub” and the
remaining amount of Rs.35 crore is earmarked for the Research
Projects.
Thru regular and periodical campus interviews/Job Fairs
thru The Career and Counselling Cell (CCC), 1,292 out of
3559 candidates were recruited. A total of 71,017 Students were
admitted in skill development programmes of IECD through
tie-up organizations. On an average, 600 researchers are being
awarded Ph.D. in convocation every year.
Our sprawling campus with bio-diversity provides a
unforgettable campus life with world class library and computing
facility besides unique School and University Industry Tie ups
(SUITS) scheme and Technology Park that houses around 10
companies and incubation support.

administrative experience
spans over two decades
including positions such
as Dean of Arts, Founder

School of Management.
He had the distinction of serving Indian Council of Historical
Research (ICHR), New Delhi, MHRD, Government of India, for
two terms. He has been UGC Review Committee Member for
Centre of Advance Studies (CAS) in the Department of History,
Calcutta University and Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.
He served as NAAC Peer Team Chairperson. He is also referee for
Infosyn Science foundation.
During his tenure of office, Alagappa University has reached
milestones such as Category – I status, RUSA phase 1.0 and 2.0
grants for `120 Cr., 28th position in NIRF ranking, 20th position
in QS India, 104th position in QS BRICs and 216th position in QA
Asia Ranking and executed MoUs with top Ranked US Universities,
viz. Cornell and Drexel Universities.
About Alagappa University
Alagappa University, established by the Government of Tamil Nadu
in 1985 at Karaikudi in Sivagangai District in Tamil Nadu, has 4
faculties, 44 Departments, 10 Directorates & Centres, 3 Constituent

Science/Indexed journals. University has Six DST – FIST and Six
UGC-SAP departments. University has executed many MoUs
with top ranked Foreign Universities in USA, South Korea, China,
Australia, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia for collaborative
research. University proposes to establish the Centres of Excellence
in Proteomics, Sensor Technology, Sports Complex and Tamil
Antiquity as unique resource centres. With this strength, University
is moving towards the Status of “Institutions of Eminence (IoE)”.
