In some areas, high seats may be used. The quality of
fallow buck heads is normally good, with weights from 2.7kg
to 3.5kg and medal heads can usually be found. In a few
forestry areas, fallow buck heads around 4kg are shot
each year.
Hinds and calves are also shot during the
driven season from October to January and, as
with red deer, if there are still licences for bucks
they can be shot at list price.

Note that silencers are forbidden by law. For
foxes, raccoon dogs and roe, most hunters use
calibres in 6.5x55 up to .30-06. For red deer and
fallow in the rut, .30-06, .300 to 7mm are suitable
and for wild boar, .30-06 is ideal and with a heavy bullet
if hunted from a high seat and under moonlight. Raccoon
dogs from East Asia were introduced to Poland in the 1950s
and are now widespread. Related to foxes and bearing a
resemblance to a raccoon, these animals are quite likely to
appear in drives.
For driven hunts in the autumn, one can normally shoot all
types of game except roe buck, which are protected from
October. Calibres from .30-06 and upwards are
recommended with a heavy bullet. Many hunters use calibre
9.3x62 with bullets around 12-14g. In driven hunts, target
distances are usually around 40 to 100m and, as game is
running, heavy bullets are required. Ideally, hunters should
bring the rifle with which they are familiar, provided the
calibre is suitable. However, you can always hire a rifle and,
in this case, a copy of UK Firearm Certificate and EU rifle
passport is required.

You must bring an EU rifle passport and your Firearms
Certificate. Also, while there is no law insisting on medical
insurance, it is wise to have some form of insurance in case
of an accident.

Sensible normal hunting clothing is required, depending
on the time of the year, and camouflage clothing for roe
buck and stag hunts is perfectly acceptable. On driven
hunts, it is essential to wear a blaze orange piece of clothing
for safety reasons.
