Ever since I star ted bowhunting plains game in Southern Africa

I have always wanted to shoot a trophy war thog boar. Not all

hunting venues I’ve hunted at offer any breathtaking war thogs

and if you find farms, they are quite pricey.

I

n 2019 my friend Chris Trollope invited me for an opportu-
nity to hunt a trophy warthog boar for a good price because I
was a returning customer and good friend at a local bowhunt-
ing concession he had in the Limpopo Province in South Africa.
While dining on a hamburger and chips at the local Spur
Steak Ranch one evening in June, Chris and I were discussing
the final arrangements about our upcoming bowhunting adven-
ture later that month. He said that some great potential warthog
boars had recently been seen on trail cam and that he would make
sure to place me in the right hide on the farm for me to “bag my
wishlist animal”. As I have hunted southern impala heavily on a
previous trip it was time to focus on something new.
Wednesday 26 June finally arrived for this much-anticipated
bowhunting adventure. Chris Trollope, Bernhardt Swart and I

met at the local Total Twin Cities gas station in Brits. After top-
ping up with some coffee in the travel mugs, we were set and well
equipped for the long road ahead to Thabazimbi.
After meeting and greeting the farm manager, Oom Tinus, we
showed Bernhardt around the camp area, as it was his first time
joining us. We rapidly unpacked our vehicles, placed the food in
the fridge and the beverages on ice. We got our hunting gear ready
and did a spot check on our bows, checking if we were still hitting
true after the long drive from Gauteng. It wasn’t long before we
agreed that all was in order and we headed on our separate ways
to our hides.
