My first traditional kill
The author and his fist kill with a bow – a springbuck.
By Johan Smit
I
remember unting with traditional equipment for the first
time quite a few years ago. It was a serious matter and it
took months of preparation. Believe it or not, but back in
1998 I had to make sure the necessary documentation was in
place, and even had to apply for a permit that would allow me
to hunt with a traditional bow. I still have that permit.
The author with his
son, Ivan, who is
also a traditional
enthusiast. Ivan has
hunted quite a few
animals with both a
compound and a
traditional bow. He
shot this wildebeest
with a recurve built
by his dad. Johan
is a bowyer who
builds traditional
bows of the highest
quality.
