Mini World – July 2019

(Jacob Rumans) #1
Plenty of rallying in The
Netherlands. Not too many
hillclimbs happening though.

Imported from the USA back in 2008, this

is how the 1967 Mk1 Cooper S looked when

Peter first saw it after its long sea voyage.

Resprayed, and now rolling on its new, seam-

welded, dry subframes and refurbed wheels, the

Cooper S would be ready to rally in May 2016.

The strip-down commenced in 2010 and Peter
removed everything from the bodyshell before
having it baked in an oven to remove the paint.

1275cc A-series was rebuilt to 1330cc by Verbaas
Preparations and tested on the dynamometer
where it produced 110bhp at the flywheel.

Replacement outer sills were fitted before the
bodyshell was resprayed in Jaguar Battleship Grey
(JA001) with an Old English White (WT3) roof.

Peter got stuck in to making his own loom and
adopted a methodical approach, using a fuse box
from Auto Electrical Spares and labelling wires.
