MiniWorld July 2019 9

Part of the Classics World Family
http://www.classicsworld.co.uk

I love seeing row after row of beautiful Minis lined
up at shows but I also especially enjoy taking part in
a Mini run. I guess it's because a main attraction of a
car is the thrill of driving it on the open road. Mini runs
can be fantastic fun. There's something rather special
about being part of a convoy of cars. Maybe it's a
pack mentality thing. In May I enjoyed being in Mini
convoys on the Riviera Run Cruise and the London to
Brighton Mini Run and also had enjoyable drives down
to Cornwall and back in MiniWorld's Riley Elf aka STElf.
As well as some fab photos from six excellent Mini
events in this issue, we also have some superb feature Minis. Do take some time
to pore over the photos of Dave Rippard's stunning 1959 Morris Mini-Minor. It
was pretty rotten when he bought it. He first thought he'd made a mistake by
buying it because the scale of the project was so huge, not only in terms of
the actual physical bodywork repairs but also as he had to source many parts
unique to these special early cars. His sheer determination to bring it back to
life means that he has preserved it for future generations. Brilliantly, thanks
to the restoration project, a love of Minis has passed on to his children.
Many authentic Mini restorations would not be possible without
fitting Newton Commercial interior trim. Perhaps we sometimes take
for granted how easy it is to call up Jonny Newton and his helpful team
in Leiston, Suffolk, to order a new carpet, sunvisors or even a full set
of seat covers. In this issue we catch up with him and his parents, Vera
and Richard, to find out about the 40-year history of the business.
I hope you enjoy the issue.
