t’s an improbable time line: Patrick
Ta (above) was working at the
M.A.C. cosmetics counter in
Scottsdale’s Fashion Square
shopping mall roughly five years
ago. Then, like a lot of unknown
makeup artists, he moved to Los
Angeles, hoping for his big break.
Unlike a lot of unknown makeup
artists, he was quickly discovered by
actress Shay Mitchell, who saw his
work on Instagram and invited him to
do her makeup. Within two years, Ta
had become the It girls’ go-to makeup
guy, with Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner,
and their ilk turning to him before
photo shoots and parties. Ta still does
Mitchell’s makeup, only now he fits
her in between flicking on Ariana
Grande’s cat eyes, filling in Rihanna’s
lips, and serving as both Shiseido’s
global color artist and La Mer’s global
makeup artist. That brings us to the
now: Ta is launching his first makeup
line, on patrickta.com and at Sephora.
It’s a trio of products meant to lend
your face, lips, and body a radiant
sheen. “I wanted my first collection to
be all about glow,” he says. “It’s always
the final touch I add—it gives the
makeup a little extra kick.” Sounds
like a fairy-tale ending to us. But in
Ta’s mind, it’s only the beginning.
“You’re going to see more every
single season,” he says. “You’ll have
another surprise soon.” —JESSICA CHIA

Since 2014, Anastasia Beverly Hills’ best-selling Dipbrow Pomade has made
achieving perfect brows as easy as dipping a brush into a pot of pigment, painting
thin lines in the style of realistic portraiture, and precisely mirroring your craft on
the other side. (Insert: wipes-brow meme.) The brand’s new Dipbrow Gel, though,
goes on as easy as a flick of the wrist: Run the spooley along your brows and marvel
as it coats each hair in pigment that makes brows look fluffier and fuller, like an
Olsen crossed with a Delevingne. No MFA required. —BRENNAN KILBANE
