THE stepdad of murdered
13-year-old Lucy McHugh
has allegedly been attacked
in the street.
Richard Elmes, 22, was a
friend of the teen’s killer,
Stephen Nicholson, and
invited the paedophile to
lodge in the family home.
The 25-year-old abused
Lucy, killing her when she
threatened to expose him.
He got a minimum 33
years last week for her rape
and murder – and Mr
Elmes was allegedly
assaulted by two men
outside a shop days later.
Lucy’s mum Stacey
White, 31, said she is now
terrified of “vigilantes” and
has suffered abuse online.
Stacey, of Southampton,
said: “All I want is for us to
be able to grieve for our
little girl.”
Police said two men
were charged with GBH.

Second dog

swooped on

by angry bird

A SECOND dog in days has
been attacked by a bird.
A hawk swooped trying
to snatch six-month-old
dachshund Bronn, on a
lead with his owners.
The Harris hawk was
used to chase off seagulls.
On Monday we revealed
how a huge gull grabbed a
miniature chihuahua, aged
four, from a garden in
Paignton, Devon.
But Keith Robinson, 33,
and wife Nicola, 28, were
able to save Bronn in Inver-
ness, in the Highlands.
Keith said: “It was trying
to lift him off the ground.
After a minute it let go, but
it was terrifying.”
The dog was unhurt but
is wary about going out.
The pest control firm
using the hawk said it was
trying to chase off the dog.
Harris hawks can have
wingspans of up to 4ft.

BRITISH Airways yesterday lost a

High Court bid to block summer

strikes by its pilots.

A judge dismissed the airline’s

application for a temporary injunction

to halt action, which it claims could cost

up to £40million a day.

But Mrs Justice Elisabeth Laing did

allow BA to appeal against her ruling.

This may be heard by the Court of

Appeal by Friday, or at the start of next

week. However, it raises the risk of

summer walkouts by pilots in

a dispute over pay.

The British Airline Pilots’

Association said on Monday

that its members backed

industrial action by more

than nine to one, with a

turnout of 90%.
