Kyle Kashuv, a teenager who survived the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland,
Florida, and subsequently became a pro-gun activist, had his admission offer rescinded by Harvard University
last month. Harvard made the decision after racist texts and comments surfaced that Kashuv made when he
was 16, a few months before the shooting. Despite Kashuv apologizing for the comments when they became
public in May, the prestigious university decided to withdraw its offer for “maturity and moral character”
reasons. Some conservatives decried the decision as unfair, reviving the debate about college admission
process in the United States.
