the fuselage nacelle and tail surfaces and
from the outset the aircraft was designed to
carry an impressive battery of four Hispano
20mm cannon grouped in the nose. The wings
were of conventional stressed-skin light alloy
construction with a single main spar, and
were itted with integral slotted air brakes
to aid manoeuvrability. The twin boom tail
design meant that the jet tail pipe could be
kept very short, thus minimising power loss,
and placed the tail control surfaces out of the
main jet eflux. One of the most dificult design
challenges was that of the air intakes, which
