58 MODEL AIRPLANE INTERNATIONAL - August 2019
KIT BUILD
doors in aluminium and applied a dark wash.
Externally, these were painted to match the
area of the scheme where they would fi nally
be located. These parts were now added to
the model. Tamiya XF-85 Flat Rubber Black
was now airbrushed over the wheels, and the
oleo compression struts hand-painted with
Mr. Metal Color Aluminium. All gear struts
were now fi tted to the model. Gunze H20 Flat
Clear was airbrushed over all subassemblies
and the canopy fi nally unmasked. Black paint
was used to touch up the metal barrels I fi tted
earlier. Sliding the central fuselage collar over
the lower fuse, and fi tted the nose, was the
next task. The central collar should now rotate
freely. Lastly, I fi tted the rotors. These are a
tight squeeze as the fi t needs to prevent them
sagging. I set these at an intermediate angle
as I thought this looked best. That’s it...all
done!
My sincere thanks to Amusing Hobby for
sending this out for building in Model Airplane
International, and also to Eduard for their
Steelbelts set. ■
AK’s Neutral Wash was applied over all surface detail
and later removed with a cotton bud. Remnants
were buffed into the surround paintwork.
Xtreme Metal Aluminium
was used on the interior
of the clamshell gear
doors, followed by a dark
brown wash.
All gear doors and struts are now fi tted
to the underside of the model, pending
fi nal assembly.
