Which shows do you enjoy?
I’m catching up on Peaky Blinders
at the moment. I need catch-up
TV because I don’t get the
chance to watch things when
they are on. I love lots of sport.
I’m a big Arsenal fan.
Are you a binge watcher?
I can watch two or three episodes
of something, but then I’ll get
itchy feet and make a cup of tea
or put a wash on.
Where do you watch TV?
In my kitchen. I have a smallish
TV in there. It’s nice because
that’s where my golden Labrador,
Bobby, usually is and I can look
out onto the garden. Sometimes,
I’m with my kids, but I don’t mind
watching on my own. People talk
over all the best bits of a show
and that annoys me!
When do you yell at the TV?
When Arsenal concede a goal, or
when there’s a big shocker in a
series like Killing Eve. I’ll be
screaming, ‘Oh my god!’
Do you cry at anything?
Oh yeah. I cry at commercials.
As I get older, I find I’m more
in touch with my emotions. I’m
quite a sensitive soul. My
daughter, Maddie, is forever
throwing cushions at me when
we’re watching TV, because I’ll
be sobbing loudly. She’ll be like,
‘Stop it, Daddy, shut up!’

Do your children watch your
programmes?
They do. They watched my
Caribbean Kitchen series and
loved it. It’s nice to have a bit of
family support.
Have you had any
embarrassing TV moments?
Back in the early days, on Good
Morning with Anne and Nick, I
was caught on live TV picking my
nose! Anne [Diamond] and Nick
[Owen] were wetting themselves.
It’s rumoured that Ready
Steady Cook is getting a
reboot. Would you do it?
Of course. It would be flattering to
be asked. I don’t think there’s
anything like it on TV now.
Was the aim of Caribbean
Kitchen to show that
Caribbean cooking is more
than just jerk chicken?
Absolutely. Every island has its
own influences and styles.
Do you cook fancy meals for
yourself every night?
Not at all. I’m partial to a bit of
beans on toast. Sometimes I’ll
order a pizza and have that on my
lap while watching the footie.
What are you up to next?
I’m doing a third series of CBBC’s
My World Kitchen, which I narrate.

Charismatic chef Ainsley Harriott started his TV career
whipping up dishes on Good Morning with Anne and Nick in
the 1990s. Earlier this year he hosted Ainsley’s Caribbean
Kitchen. Ainsley, who is 62, lives in Wandsworth, London.
