No prepositions
At, in and on are not usually used before
expressions of time with next, this, that,
last, one, any, each, every, some or all:

  • We danced all night.

  • Will you be here next week?

Writing the date and saying the date
When you write the date, you write:
10 June or 10th June
But you say: “the tenth of June”
In North America, the month comes
before the year:

  • You write: June 10 / June 10th

  • You say: “June tenth” / “June the tenth”

Years
With dates that include the year, we usual
ly split the fourdigit number into two
twodigit numbers:

  • 1975 = “nineteen seventyfive”

  • 2020 = “twenty twenty”

40 YEARS
It’s my parents’ 40th wedding
anniversary tomorrow.
Forty years? That’s amazing!
Are you doing anything special?
Yes, we’re all going to Paris for the
weekend. That’s where they met.

39 DAYS AFTER
When is Ascension Day?
It’s 39 days after Easter Sunday.
And is it a public holiday?
It is in Germany, but not in the UK.

UP EARLY
I’m so tired! I was up at the crack of
dawn this morning.
Why did you get up so early?
The birds woke me up and
I couldn’t get back to sleep.

SLOW DOWN!

Hey, slow down! You’re
going a mile a minute.
Sorry. I always walk this
fast when I’m cold.
