Introduction: International Relations Theory of War 11
The fourth chapter will empirically examine the two key phenomena
that the theory deals with. The first part of the chapter examines the degree
of stability of the three possible international system models (i.e., multipo-
lar, bipolar, and unipolar systems, and their six instances). The second part
of the chapter examines the degree of territorial expansion of polar powers
at the end of the wars in which they participated, in the six instances of
three international systems, as described above.
The fifth and last chapter presents the book’s conclusions by examining
the theoretical assumptions of the international relations theory of war. This
chapter also presents a conceptual and empiric summary based on the
theory explaining the events unfolding in the international system from
the end of the Cold War to the present.
