I MOVE IN SOME glamorous circles from
time to time and was recently invited to an
elegant evening at Edinburgh Castle to
celebrate the launch of WhiskyGenius and was
sat at a table with two Miss Scotlands, both as
intelligent and charming as they were beautiful.
Whisky doesn’t last very long at Wilson
Manor so I was interested to hear about the
opportunities WhiskyGenius provides to invest
in our national tipple, the main attraction is
that they store it for you so you can’t drink it.

CEO Murray Holdgate gave an impressive
presentation and a delicious dinner was
intercepted by the living whisky encyclopaedia
and author Charles MacLean. It all went down

of The Glenlivet 23-year-old sold out in the

their fortnightly dedicated region wine
tasting sessions. With a new region
featured every month guests can enjoy a
welcoming aperitivo, five specially
selected Italian wines to taste and
matching nibbles for just £25. Of course
you can also book for dinner afterwards.

innovations, whooping with delight at the
chore saving delight of the dishwasher
and grudgingly accepting the time saving
genius of the microwave. I own a £300 ice
cream maker that’s recently lost it’s crown
to a £14 Silvercrest egg boiling machine
I love so much I want to make it breakfast
in the morning if it wasn’t making mine.
It makes a 100% perfect soft-boiled egg
with the white just done and the yolk a
pool of runny but warm yellow loveliness.
It’s quite simply the best thing I’ve ever
bought and has changed my life.

child status.IF BARGAIN BUT extremely
tasty Indian street food is your
thing, you might be familiar with
Tuk Tuk in Tollcross. They’ve
opened a new venue on
Drummond Street - a modern,
vibrant space, enhanced with
vintage Bollywood posters and
some bright, comfy seating. I
enjoyed the fun atmosphere,
particularly from our friendly
server Michael. The open kitchen
promoted the vibe of freshly
cooked delights.The menu is the right size to be
more than confident of the
cooking: plenty of variety but not
trying to be all things to all tastes.
The well priced tapas style
portions allow you to try a few
dishes. From the ‘Roadside Plates’
section we picked Chicken
Lollipops, substantial but cute
chicken legs, Keralan spiced and
cooked to crispy but juicy
perfection. The Bhajis, with onion
and beetroot were equally
unctuous and delightfully spicy.The Jhal Aloo, fried potatoes with
chef ’s spices were also crispy and
super tasty.
From the Street Curries section
we chose Lamb Lasooni, cooked
with whole cloves of garlic but
surprisingly not overwhelming.
This is not a place to break the
bank with Roadside Plates from
£4.80 to £7.50 and Curries from
£5.95 to £8.45. Despite only
having four plates between us we
had some wrapped to go. Our
sides of Pilau Rice and PeshwariNaan were more than enough for
two to share.
This venue isn’t licensed but we
had a creamy and fresh Mango
Lassi. For BYOB the charge is
£1.50 per head and diners are
welcome to bring beer or wine.
The restaurant is rather tucked
away at the end of Drummond
Street, next to the Brass Monkey,
