BLACKOUT POETRY
If you’re struggling for inspiration,
a blackout poem is a great way to
spark imagination – kids and
adults can pick a page and join in.YOU WILL NEED:
A newspaper
A pencil
A marker pen1 Select a newspaper article.
2 Quickly scan through the article,taking note of the words that
stand out to you. These words
will become your ‘key words’
that give a shape and theme
to your poem.
3 Read through the article
properly. You could use a pencil
to lightly mark other words that
connect to your key words or
resonate with your theme.
4 Take a marker pen and redact
the words that you don’t need

SCAVENGER HUNT
If you love a scavenger hunt, but
don’t have the inclination to run
around, this is the game for you.YOU WILL NEED:
A newspaper or two
Scissors
Scavenger hunt list (above right)How to play
1 Create your own ‘Hunt list’ (or
use our one above).
2 Divide into teams and set
a time limit (1 min per item seems
to works well).
3 Go! Teams scour through the
newspaper to find all the items
on the hunt list.
4 Cut out the items and create
