“I was in a hide on the
Black Isle, waiting for an
opportunity to see my first ever
pine martens. As mum went
about eating, the kits started
play-fighting. During a brief
pause in their antics, the kits
climbed up onto the fallen
log. It was a short five minutes,
but one of the best wildlife

to build up trust and get
close enough to capture
a humbug (wild boar)
laying almost hidden
among the bracken
in the evening sun.
This piglet is a couple
