Start this knot formation from the
base. Pull a cord through the loop at
the top of a porcelain medallion (or other
ornament), fold it and tie a pan changknot
(7). After completing the second side loop
on the top right side, extend it into a round
brocade knot (2) and then extend the outer-
most outer loop into a cloverleaf knot (1).
After completing the second side loop on
the bottom right side, tie a double coin knot
(3) together with the first side loop. Repeat
the steps on the left of the knot formation
(4–6), making sure both sides are identical.
After completing pan changknot 7, bring the
cord ends together and tie a double connec-
tion knot (8). Leave enough cord for the neck-
lace loop, then tie the ends into a button knot.

Fold a cord, leave a suitable length
for the necklace loop, then tie a double
connection knot (1) followed by a round bro-
cade knot with six outer loops (6). Extend
every second outer loop of the round brocade
knot into a cloverleaf knot (2–5). After com-
pleting the round brocade knot, tie a double
connection knot (7) before starting a special
variation of the bao menknot (10). Using the
tying technique of the cloud formation knot,
tie the bottom left and right parts that bend
inward. Using the tying technique of the
winged pan changknot, tie the top left and
right corner loops, as well as their nearby side
loops. Extend the second last side loop on
each side into a ru yiknot (8, 9). After complet-
ing special bao men knot 10, tie the cord ends
into two button knots (11, 12) and insert them
inside the center space of the knot. Pull the
cords through the two wings at the bottom
of the formation and make two more button
knots (13–15) with each. Finally, add strings
of beads and small bells to the bottom of the
button knots, as shown above.

Start this knot formation from the base. Pull a cord through a hook attached to a medal-
lion (or other ornament), fold it and tie a double connection knot (1) followed by a
round brocade knot with eight outer loops (2). Separate the cord ends. Tie the right one into
a pan changknot (4) and extend the loop on the right side into a cloverleaf knot (3). Repeat
the steps with the left cord end (6, 5). Bring the cord ends together and tie a cloverleaf knot (7)
using the tying technique of a ru yiknot with a cloverleaf knot within it. Then tie another round
brocade knot (8) followed by a double connection knot (9). Leave a suitable length for the
necklace loop, then tie the ends into a button knot. Finally, sew beads in the center and in the
outer loops of both round brocade knots.
