This flower-shaped knot, made from
red and green leather cords, makes
an attractive accessory on a black woolen
sweater. To form the flower, fold the red
leather cord and tie a cloverleaf knot (1)
followed by a round brocade knot with eight
outer loops (2). Tie another round in every
outer loop of the round brocade knot. Cut
off and hide the end of the left cord inside
the body of the flower. Tie the right cord into
another round brocade knot (3) a short dis-
tance below the flower, to form the bud. Twist
the remaining right cord into a stalk shape
and then hide the end under the flower. Sew
the bud and stalk onto the sweater. Next, tie
the green leather cord into two cloverleaf
knots (4, 5; 6, 7), lengthening the outer loops
to form a leaf shape. Twist both remaining
green cord ends into the shape of a leaf stalk
along the outer edges of the red stalk and
sew onto the garment.

To make this exceptional floral design,
first fold a red cord and tie a clover-
leaf knot (1) followed by a round brocade knot
with ten outer loops (2). Tie another round
within each outer loop of the round brocade
knot, lengthening the loops, as shown at left.
Continue downward, tying two double con-
nection knots (3, 4) and a pan changknot
(5) also with its outer loops lengthened, as
shown. Then tie eight double connection
knots (6) to form the flower stalk.
For the leaves, start at top right. Tie a green
cord into two cloverleaf knots (7, 8), lengthen-
ing and extending their outer loops to form
branches. Continue downward, using the right
cord to form another leaf (9, 10) and to lay
down loops around pan changknot 5, and the
left cord to form another leaf (11, 12) with
lengthened branches and for embellishment.
Use another green cord to form the second
leaf (13, 14) on the left, then tie three double
connection knots (15) below it. Tie a double
connection knot (18) below the third leaf
(16, 17) on the lower right to make the flower
stalk look thicker. Tie a pan changknot (19)
below the flower stalk. Hide one of the re-
manning cord ends inside the knot body, then
tie the other one into a ru yiknot (20). Hide
that cord end also inside the knot body.
To make the butterfly, tie a red cord into a
round brocade knot (3). Extend the second
outer loop on each side into a cloverleaf knot
(1, 2). Then decorate the butterfly with a green
cord, as shown. Tie another butterfly using
exactly the same technique, but this time
reverse the color scheme. After completing
the flower and the two butterflies, sew them
onto the jacket (or other garment).
