The Night Clerk
A young and socially awkward hotel clerk,
Bart Bromley (Tye Sheridan), witnesses
a murder during his shift. However, his
suspicious behavior means that the lead
detective assigned to the case, Detective
Espada (John Leguizamo), wrongly suspects
him of having committed the crime.
FIVE FACTS:
- Ana de Armas also appears in the film as
Andrea Rivera, a hotel guest with whom Bart
forms a personal connection. - Reviewer Nate Adams of The Only Critic
has said that the film “will likely show up on
a trivia card in the next decade asking which
rising star (de Armas) found herself in a big fat
dud circa 2020.” - Another cast member, Helen Hunt, plays
Bart’s mother Ethel. - Leguizamo originally rose to fame in the
doomed game-to-film adaptation Super
Mario Bros. in 1993, playing Luigi alongside
Bob Hoskins as Mario. - On Rotten Tomatoes, the critics’ consensus
about The Night Clerk praises the “pair of
charismatic leads” but takes issue with the
“poorly conceived story”.
