STEp OnE

I selected a suitable studyfroma recentlifedrawing
session. On this occasionI wasfortunateenoughto
have Fergus (the model’scat)toposeaswell.

STEp TWO

With a generous amountofPhthaloBlueandWhite,I applied
sweeping strokes witha largefoambrushacrossthealready
primed canvas. I continuedbuildingonthebackgroundby
blending more WhiteintotheBlueandfinallypullingWhite
across the canvas usinga Gyprockscraperorcardboardoffcut.

STEp THREE

Using the charcoal sketchasmyguide,I drewthe
figure onto the preparedbackground.Forthis,I used
compressed Black charcoalanda Whitecontepastelwhich
were readily visible overbothlightanddarkareas.

STEp fOUR

With a little Raw SiennaandWhite,I blockedin thefigureand
the cat – allowing forsomeofthebackgroundcolourto show
through. At this pointI addedsomemoreWhiteareaswiththe
Gyprock scraper and strengthenedotherareaswiththeBlue.

STEp fIVE

I added some depth tothefigureusingthePhthalo
Blue; and added a littleWhiteforsomelights.
