ones Knowles Ritchie (JKR) is an
open-plan studio on Regent’s
Canal overlooking Camden Lock.
Entering is like stumbling upon an oasis of
creativity in the middle of Camden. Our
palette of black, grey, white and oak keeps
the space fresh and neutral – our work and
people are always the focus. We wanted to
design a space for creativity to thrive. Ours
is an industry where no days, projects or
individuals are the same, so our studio
reflects this. Quiet spaces and collaborative
areas enable people to curate their own day.
Our Terrace, at the heart of the studio, is a
space for us to gather, eat or share ideas.

1 THE CO-LABS
A spirit of collaboration runs through every
aspect of our studio. Our Co-Labs spaces
are hubs for displaying and sharing ideas.
Designers can draw and experiment on full
walls of corkboard, share work in our sofa
areas, or briefings in pods with screens.

Every month one of our designers curates
the gallery space in our Library area. It’s
a chance for them to showcase a personal
project such as their own typefaces.

2 THE TERRACE
This airy atrium is the heart of our studio.
We share work and inspiration, hold talks
and spend time with our clients here. When
you walk into the Terrace from downstairs,
passing beneath the brick barrel-vaulted
ceiling into the bright open space feels like
entering an amphitheatre of creativity.

3 THE MUPPETS
We put out a studio brief to ask the designers
how we might capture the essence of our
previous residents. The result is a stylised
interpretation of four instantly recognisable
characters. This is the first thing people
notice when they enter our reception, and
we have other Muppets dotted around the
studio to keep an eye on us.

4 THE FEATURE WALLS
Our downstairs Feature Wall changes
monthly and celebrates one of our recent
projects. We’ve had every inch of it filled
with pom-poms for Miller Harris; hand-
painted for the Stella Artois Christmas
campaign; and covered with a giant melting
Burger King logo for our sustainability
initiative ‘The Meltdown’. Upstairs we
have a Feature Wall created by one of our
designers and spray-painted by the graffiti
artist Jody Thomas. It features one of our
JKR values: “Be Yourself.”

5 THE ARCHES
Long before it was our home, this building
was part of Camden Market. At one point
400 horses worked in the Goods Yard and the
horse tunnels that guided them ran from
here to the Roundhouse. These beautiful
arches serve as a constant reminder of that
heritage – and the value of design that wears
in, but never wears out.
