The “Mona Lisa” of movie posters is the poster for Fritz Lang’s movie
Metropolis (1925). It sold in 2005 for $690,000 before turning up again in a
bankruptcy auction in 2012 when it sold along with several other rare movie
posters as a group for $1.2 million. The original 1931 six-sheet poster for
Frankenstein may be the most valuable movie poster out there; only one copy is
known to exist and it has never been sold.
