“It was really cool, because I hadn’t seen him
since the show’s been out,” says Favreau. “He
was watching and giving notes and clarifying
things. I love hearing him talk. He definitely
lets us know what he’s thinking.”
The seal of approval from the creator of
Yoda, Boba Fett and the whole shebang feels
likeThe Mandalorianhas been anointed in
some way. It’s clearly going to be around for
some time yet, although Favreau is remaining
tightlipped about just how long that will be.
“It’s a story, and a story has to have a beginning,
a middle and an end,” he says. “You have to
have lighthouses of where you’re headed. But
you have to spend a certain amount of time
talking about where this might go and how it
wants to resolve.”
At a certain point, if it carries on long
enough, it might even begin to tie in with the
events that lead up toThe Force Awakens,
which is set more than two decades after
The Mandalorian.
“I was fascinated with the prospect of what
would happen after the Empire falls,” Favreau
says. “I started thinking about what would
happen, after deposing a tyrant, to go right
back into tyrannical rule 25 years later. What
happened in the galaxy that could have led
to that unexpected turn of events?”
Whatever happens, don’t be surprised
to see a helmet-wearing, armour-sporting,
tough-as-nails bounty hunter (and, perhaps,
his little green friend) at the centre of it.
