Travel Book - Guilvinec to Dubrovnik 2023

(Yoanna lpmgvrra-aD) #1

We arrived by bus in the morning to a natural park called
Plitvicka Jezera. Florence, the manager of our library, took a
picture with Lucas and Orélien in front of the statue of a grizzly
bear standing on its hind legs. Everyone did some sightseeing,
surrounded by waterfalls, lakes and woods.

In March 1991, the site was the scene of the Plitvice Lakes
incident. The first armed conflict of the Croatian war of
independence. The Serbs, led by Slobodan Milosevic took over
the region, which was not taken back until August 1995 with
Operation Storm led by the Croatian army, putting an end to the
war.

The park consists of 16 lakes, connected by waterfalls. The park
has 1267 species of plants, including 22 endangered species,
protected by the policy of nature preservation of the Republic of
Croatia. The park's fauna includes 157 species of birds and 50
species of mammals, including wolves, deers, wild cats, lynx, and
specially, brown bears which are the symbol of the park.

Plitvicka National Park has an area of 29 685 hectares, although
not all of it is accessible to visitors.

We really enjoyed this visit although we would have liked to see
some more animals. But it was one of our favorite visits of the
trip.
