pullmeoutoftheground.Fortunate-
ly,inthepastfiveyearsmyproduc-
tionhasbeenontheriseagain.

wreakedhavocontheEuropeanvine
rootstockwasnativetoAmericansoil.
Thepestilencedestroyedasmuch
as 90 percentofEuropeanvineyards,
almostsendinga centuries-oldagri-
culturaltraditiontoruin,andthe
f ledglingAustralianandNewZea-
