  • Creating a space to get grounded. Staying grounded is key.

  • Making space for downtime.

  • Practicing meditation or calming modality.

  • Protecting your energy by holding strong, healthy boundaries.

  • Finding a supportive teacher.

  • Learning to say no without guilt.

  • Not taking everything on yourself. Observe feelings, but
    don’t always absorb them.


Defining their own identity. Empaths can be
overly invested in the lives of those around them.
They experience their emotional highs and lows
and are in tune with their values, intentions and
sensitivities. Though it may seem like a blessing
to be attentive and present in the company of
others, it makes it hard for empaths to focus
on themselves. It is a challenge for them to
recognize their own dreams and emotional
triggers.

Bearing the emotional trauma of others.
Empaths feel others’ pain and distress with
extreme sensitivity. Oftentimes, they can be
overwhelmed with emotions, feel the weight
of others’ predicaments and take on struggles
that are not their own. Many empaths find
it beneficial to practice meditation or other
mindfulness activities. It allows them to recenter,
focus on themselves and let go of the weight
others have placed on them.

The tendency to overcommit. Empaths like to
please people, and they find it hard to say no.
Many empaths find themselves overcommitted
and simply unable to follow through with all of
their responsibilities. Their need to satisfy others
can leave them feeling stressed and may
compromise their self-care.

Remaining in unhealthy relationships. Empaths
are people you can easily trust. They listen to you
and relate to everything you are experiencing.
However, as a result, empaths can end up being
a dumping ground for other peoples’ problems.
They find themselves in relationships where
they give more than they receive and are easily
taken advantage of.

Dealing with grief. When an empath receives
upsetting news, it hits them hard. Emotional
trauma can haunt them, and it will take time
for them to recover. Empaths should tackle
problems and address emotional distress slowly
and on a case-by-case basis so they do not feel
overwhelmed.

Feeling isolated. Empaths have no tolerance for
fake people. They can easily spot inauthenticity
and would rather spend time alone than in a
crowd. This may leave them feeling lonely and
like they have no support system to fall back on.
It is important for them to find people they trust
and respect and who can bring positive energy
back into their lives.
