Overcoming

Social Anxiety

6 Benefits of Healing Social Anxiety

Not everyone who suffers from social anxiety has a diagnosis of Social Anxiety Disorder. People who struggle with social anxiety find that everyday
social interactions can cause them irrational anxiety, fear, self-consciousness, and embarrassment. It’s not just chronic shyness; it can affect every area
of a person’s life and cause them to do things and behave in ways that completely contradict how they feel, what they want, and who they want to be.

Despite how impossible it may feel for those of you that are struggling with social anxiety right now, you CAN overcome it, and I am going to share
some reasons why you should work toward doing so and some tips on how to start.

First, let’s talk about some of the ways that social anxiety might show up in our lives. This is also important to note for the people that have never
suffered from this type of anxiety, because if our loved ones or associates do, then it could explain why some of their behavior may come across as
insensitive, irresponsible, or even rude.

Remember: Despite struggling in areas of your life that seem so normal and easy for other people to manage, you are NOT any less of a person.
You CAN overcome this.

Here Are 8 Soothing Self-Care Practices to Help You Start to Overcome Social Anxiety Today

  1. Practice controlling your breathing. Breathing shallow and fast will make you feel dizzy and tense. 2. Journal. Write about
how you feel and what the limiting beliefs are that cause you to feel anxious. 3. Regular exercise lowers anxiety levels and relaxes us. Also,
eat more anxiety-friendly foods. Our brain is connected to our gut. 4. Prepare for social events in advance. This can include trying on your
outfit beforehand and giving yourself extra time to get ready so that you can enjoy the process. 5. Consider talking therapy or CBT (cognitive
behavioral therapy). 6. Challenge negative self-talk with positive uplifting affirmations. Your words are so powerful. 7. Set goals and celebrate
each one. Get yourself out there bit by bit. 8. Take the focus off of yourself and understand this truth: Everyone isn’t judging or looking at you!

This means you will be able to hold more relaxed
conversations without the tension your body can
sometimes feel and without wondering if you are looking
okay and saying the right things.

When you aren’t afraid of being around other people,
sparking conversation with strangers, and walking into
rooms or events that have already begun, you can act on
your curiosities and spend time doing things that broaden
your understanding of the world around you.

These present themselves as new jobs, new experiences,
new people, new relationships, new locations, new
adventures, new outfits, new cuisines, new hobbies, new
emotions—the newness is limitless and so very exciting.

Trisca Laghar said: “Self-care boosts your self-esteem.
Treating yourself with kindness helps you to see yourself in
a more positive light.”

When you aren’t second-guessing yourself and avoiding
human interaction, you open yourself up to meeting new
people who can have beautiful intentions toward you.
People who you can love deeply and who will love you back
and ones that can change your life for the better.

You begin to realize that a lot of your beliefs about yourself,
your life, and the way others see you have been lies, and
as you identify this, you let go of the negativity attached to
those lies and begin to feel free! Free to just BE!
