There was a time when I chose to suffer alone,
a result of my ego telling me to hide. This way
of coping kept me sick, ashamed and silent.
It’s taken time to understand that anxiety
is not a result of some flaw within. Rather,
it’s a disconnected part of myself that needs
attention and that can be a great asset if I
learn how to manage it properly. How does
one do that, you ask? It starts with reaching
out and acknowledging you need help.

Each time I admit my truth, I begin to live
unashamed.

As much as this disorder wants to keep me
silent, I share my struggles to help others.
I, like you, was not put on this earth to live
anonymously. Shedding light on our darkness
changes the narrative. When we hear our
stories reflected in others, we can learn to
accept our shortcomings, let our guard down
and regain a sense of control. And that is a
powerful place to be.

I am grateful for a partner who can look
beyond my anxiety, choosing to love me
through it despite the impact it has on our
relationship. If you’re struggling, let someone
hold you. Let someone love you through those
dark and messy moments and, in turn, show
up for others in the same way. Your story,
like mine, has the power to heal, so share it,
bravely and without fear.

If you’re struggling with anxiety, know you are
not alone. Here are some tips to help you get
through it:

Remind yourself
this is only
temporary

Get enough
sleep
Reach out to
someone who
makes you

Listen to
calming

Practice guided
imagery and
meditation

Find a mantra
that works for
you—“I am safe,
I am okay.”

to yourself

breathe

Walk in
nature
