In order to be useful, formative assessment
must cover the important outcomes that are
intended in inquiry learning.
That is, it must be concerned with the process
skills and with the understanding of scientific
ideas. So the outcomes of inquiry learning have
to be identified, and it is essential to know what
is meant by progression in each of the skills,
attitudes, and areas of understanding.
