Dishes up more authentic cuisine, including meat from
parts of the cow that Americans throw out, as well as tasty
pejerrey. This place gets great reviews.
Ask around for two legendary cooks who’ve had their
stands for decades. Doña Cristina Mena may still be
serving fried llama with all the trappings at El Puente,
a few steps from Plaza Sebastian Pagador and hopefully
Doña Rosa Calizaya is still there ladelling out her thimpu
(a mutton and potato stew with lots of endemic Bolivian
goodies thrown in with a natural tomato sauce) at Mercado
Fermín López.

HOTELS

 Practical website: http://www.boliviaweb.com/hotels/htm
The Bolivia website is an all-purpose reference. You can
search for a hotel by city/region, by number of stars or with
other cross-references. With the above website available,
we’ve opted here for the minimalist approach, listing a
few hotels considered by CultureShock! Bolivia to have an
excellent quality-price ratio, based on a combination of
some or all of the following criteria: authentic colonial
décor, facilities, location and comfort.
L = luxury, M = moderate, I = inexpensive

La Paz

If you just want to bed down at the low end or bathe in
luxury at the high end, there are numerous generic places
available. We’ve tried to pick out some of the most unique
lodging choices for all budgets.
