young boys must go to the temples and spend some time
there in training and learning. Some remain and become
monks while others return to secular life.

Other Religions


There are three other religions commonly practised in China:
Islam, Judaism and Christianity. The origin of these religions
can be traced to trade and exposure to other countries along
the Silk Road. The Uyghurs of Xinjiang are followers of the
Muslim faith. They came to China during the Tang Dynasty
and are of Turkish descent.

The older generation of Chinese are usually religious and strongly adhere to
the customs and beliefs of their religion.
