ough it’s inside the ‘Gothic

Quarter’, Plaça Reial sports the

Neoclassical sle. e square’s

resplendent palms might lead

you to overlook the lampposts,

designed by Antoni _____ – just

a small contribution from a man

who came to embody the unique

visual sle of an entire ci.

His master work, the _____ is set

to become the world’s tallest

church; the targeted completion

date is 2026, a century aer the

architect’s death. ough it has

oen been a prosperous port

over the centuries, _____’s status

as the country’s second ci

meant it was overshadowed too.

Its modern visitor boom came

aer it hosted the 1992 Summer

Olympics. e anthem of the

games, with the ci’s four

syllables drawn out ecstatically

in the chorus, came courtesy of

an unlikely pairing of _____ and

legendary local opera singer

Montserrat Caballé.
