Step 16: The statues need some
rubble and debris falling from all
those cracked areas. Download
and open the rubble stock image
by clicking here. Increase its
image size (Image>Image Size) to
around 3,000 pixels, and then go
to Select>Color Range. Click on
the black background area with
the eyedropper tool to select it, but
then enable the Invert option so the
selection is of the rubble and not
the background. After clicking OK,
go to Select>Modify>Contract and
contract the selection by 2 pixels to
ensure no black background gets
included. Then copy these pixels
with Command-C (PC: Ctrl-C).
Step 17: Switch back to the main
project and paste the copied pixels
into a new layer with Command-V
(PC: Ctrl-V). Place this layer above
all the lion statue layers (including
the Cracks layers), just below all
the main subject layers, and name
it “Rubble 2.” Use Free Transform
to position the main portion of the
rubble beneath the outside edge
of the lion statue at the bottom.
Use the Lasso tool (L) to select the
area you want to be visible and
use a layer mask to hide the rest.
Click on the layer thumbnail so it’s
active and not the mask, and use
a Hue/Saturation adjustment with
the Colorize option checked, and
use the same settings as with the
statues: Hue +26, Saturation +27,
and Lightness of –25.
