In focus: A350 versus 787 fleet evolution
The Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 are the
l atest families currently competing in the
long-range widebody sector. All Nippon
Airways introduced the Dreamliner to service
in 2011, while the first A350 entered service
with Qatar Airways four years later.
Cirium fleets data shows that the global
787 inventory has grown to more than 930
units currently, while just over 350 A350s are
now in commercial operation.
Boeing is currently producing Dreamliners
at a rate of about 14 per month, but recently
announced plans to slow this output to 10
monthly by early 2021, citing “the current
environment and near-term market outlook”.
Airbus’s assembly rate for the A350 is fixed at
10 units per month.
Both types have current order backlogs
exceeding 500 units, Cirium data shows. ■-200-1000100200300400500600700800Jan-19Feb-19Mar-19Apr-19May-19Jun-19Jul-19Aug-19Sep-19Oct-19Nov-19Dec-19 Jan-20Narrowbody Regional Turboprop WidebodyCommercial monthly net orders, January 2019-2020
