Bitter-sweet is the only word to describe
how Mother’s Day will feel this year.
While I’ll be holding my girls close
and celebrating them, I’ll also be
remembering my own mum who passed
away 10 years ago. She never met my
girls, or even saw me get married, andshe
died just four months after my dad passed
away of cancer. It was the toughest time
of my life, but those kinds of challenges
put life into perspective.
Losing Mum helped me to appreciate
the special bond between me and my
girls. When I look back to the happy
times with her, and all those Mother’s
Days we shared, it inspires me to be
positive and grateful Mum and

‘I'll honour my mum with a roast’

I were very close, and she taught me
the value of both working hard in your
career, and being a good home-maker.
I learned all my cooking skills from
Mum, especially how to perfect a
roast. Thanks to her, my family always
sits down for Sunday dinner together.
It’s the perfect reminder.
This Mother’s Day will be close to the
10-year anniversary of losing Mum. Yes,
it’ll be sad, but as we tuck into our roast,
I’ll remember those lovely times with her.
I’m grateful to be alive and healthy, and
here for my girls. Those special childhood
memories remind me to smile, and
squeeze them tighter every day.
