Humans are essentially
electrical beings – weare
made up of electrons
and because of this
we are conducting
electricity all the
time. Meanwhile,
our modern world
is packed with
electromagnetic
currents.
Before we had
electricity, our bodies
didn’t feel like the lights
were turned on 24/7. But in the
last 60 years, that has changed.
According to US-based energy expert
Clint Ober, who has been working with
scientists to study the health benefits
of grounding since 2001 and collates
a comprehensive collection of peer-
reviewed studies about grounding, this
is in part because of the introduction
of technology.
“Technology has increased
electromagnetic radiation in our
environment exponentially,” says Clint.

to grounding techniques, there are
some solid emotional indicators.
Theseinclude getting easily
distracted, spacing out,
overthinking, engaging
in personal drama
and experiencing
perpetual worrying.
“Being
ungrounded also
expresses itself in a
rampant desire for
material possessions
and being obsessed
with your personal image.
Meanwhile, physically, you
may suffer from chronic pain,
experience poor sleep and circulation
and feel very fatigued,” explains Scott.
That’s why in the modern world
grounding is an essential practice to
support optimal health.
Clint explains that by exposing our
epidermis directly to the ground we
allow ourselves to efficiently absorb
negative ions – small molecules that
have gained a negative electrical charge.
“When we ground by connecting
our skin to the surface of the Earth, »

I

wiggle my toes and bury my feet
deeper in the cool sand. Foamy,
salty water washes around my
ankles and trickles into the holes
made by my toes.
I breathe in. I breathe out. In that
one breath cycle, life already feels
more peaceful.
This is grounding, also known
as earthing, and there’s a lot of
scientific evidence to support how
beneficial it is to our nervous system
when we get outside and let our bare
feet touch soil, grass, sand or water.
