WATCH DOGS 2
Jess Kinghorn: kicking
ass and taking selfies
I find myself doing a lot
less hacking than the
developers probably
intended. Instead I’m
snapping pics around the
city for my followers,
switching up Marcus’
wardrobe, and parkouring
my way to hidden goodies.
Like most millennials, I walk everywhere
and almost never hijack cars. I just
wish there were fewer hacker
invasions to ruin my afternoon strolls.
The one time I choose to co-operate
with a fellow player, he blows up half
the road and then poses for a selfie
with me to immortalise the occasion.
At least it livens up my afternoon.
FINAL FANTASY

BRINGERS
For Oscar Taylor-Kent
three triads beat one
I meant to catch up on the
story additions in the
latest update to FFXIV,
Echoes Of A Fallen Star.
Unfortunately I took a left
turn instead of a right and
ended up in the Gold Saucer. I may
never leave. I’d never really tried out
Triple Triad before (or FFXIV’s version
of FFVIII’s minigame, at least), and now
I’m hooked. NPC players are strewn
cross Eorzea, giving a new meaning to
a big trek back over the lands I know.

Ian Dean may not have
the skins but he has
the skills to survive
Jumping back into
Rebellion’s horde shooter
I’m intimidated. I’ve been
out of the loop cheating
with PES 2020 and in my
absence everyone else
has spent time unlocking and buying
new skins to look the business. I’m still
in my day-one skinnies and my team
are pimped in golden guns and
American Sea Captains. I feel
pressured by my lack of unlocked
dubs, I’m a chancer amongst pros.
Then I click a headshot, and another,
and soon I’m taking the lead. The skins
don’t make the player, the skills do.

Spellbreak
review
W
e’re guessing that if
somebody offered
you magic powers,
you wouldn’t wish for
the ability to guess
somebody’s card, or the chance to go
on hunger strike in a transparent box
while somebody with a radio-controlled
helicopter taunts you with burgers.
You’d want powers of flight, invisibility,
throwing fireballs, lightning; right? Then
you’re in luck – Spellbreak gives you all
of those and more!
Although the beta build we play is
unstable (it crashes several times over
a few days), what we get a taste of is
delicious enough to keep us coming
back for more. There are plans for
more modes but, for now, Spellbreak is
a battle royale. The art is amusingly
derivative of Fortnite, yet this isn’t quite
like anything you’ve played before.
Yes, you dive from on high onto a
huge map, and the objective is to be the
last player or team left
standing. But something
as simple as how you
move around immediately
differentiates this game
from its many rivals.
While there’s no sprint
button, holding down q
(rather than tapping it
for a jump) sends you
shooting high into the air
for a few seconds,
perfect for navigating
the excellently designed
map with its many
buildings, mountains,
hills,andcanyons.
Similarly, if you find the
right rune during a
match, you gain a
cooldown-based ability to
briefly fly at great speed,
or teleport a short
distance. PUBG this ain’t.
Your magical attacks
come from gauntlets.
You choose one to take
into the match with you,
and you can select and
swap a second as you
find them while you play.
Fancy having both ice
powers and toxic
attacks?Windand
We like it, but... actually, a lot
