LAWN CHAIR REFRESH Update

an old lawn chair with bands of

colorful cords, right. For each

color, you’ll need 100–150 feet

of 550 paracord. First, cut or

unscrew old webbing from your

chair and clean the frame with a

wet rag. Secure your first color to

the support bar at the base of the

back of the chair by tying the cord

in a double knot. Loop the cord

over the back of the chair, back

to front. Pull the cord under the

support bar and to the front of

the seat, again looping from back

to front. Wrap behind the center

support bar again and repeat for

desired number of loops (we used

about 10 for each vertical color).

Tie the second color to the first

with a two half hitches knot, page

23, at the bottom of the chair so

it’s out of sight. Be careful not to

pull the paracord too tight or the

chair will not stay open. Repeat

for all vertical rows, then double

knot the cord to the support bar.

For the horizontal colors, secure

the cord to the chair frame and

weave between the vertical

sections, tightening as you go.

When chair is complete, tie the

cord to the frame, then trim and

heat-seal all ends, flattening with

a paracord smoothing tool to lock

the knots in place.
