HIGH CHROMA

A high-chroma color such as
an intense red, orange or
yellow can grab the viewer,
forcing the eye to look at that
area of the painting first.
Sometimes color can override
our instinct to look at high
contrast. In my still life To
Have (2017; oil on panel,
9x12), we see that the eye
goes right to the red wax on
the wedge of cheese and not
to the high contrast between
the wine glass and the
postcard.
