Dropzone contains
a menu bar icon
that expands into
an eponymous ‘dropzone’. Here
you can place files, folders and
actions; drag a file over a folder
to move it there, or a website link
to the link shortener action to
get a more digestible link.
It’s perfect for quick actions
that you regularly perform.
We love Face ID, but
we’re disappointed
it’s still not on the
Mac. Enter Unlox, which lets you
unlock your iMac or MacBook
with a simple glance. Don’t have
a Face ID iPhone? Unlox works
with Touch ID, a passcode and
the Apple Watch, and can
automatically lock your Mac
when your device moves away.
Need an all-in-one
screen-mirroring app
that works with all
your devices? Get AirServer. It
lets your Mac or TV function as
an AirPlay and Google Cast
receiver for a fraction of the cost
of an Apple TV. It works with
iPhones, iPads and Macs, plus
PCs and Android devices, so you
can stream and share easily.
Fancy a different
approach to Unlox?
Knock lets you –
you guessed it – knock on your
device to unlock your Mac. Two
quick taps on your iPhone or a
single tap on your Watch and
you’re in. You don’t even need
to open the app, and you can
remotely disable it if you lose
your device.
Calzy is the iOS
calculator taken up
a notch. You can
bookmark calculations for future
reference, drag and drop values,
and browse your calculation
history. You can even rearrange
its layout. Its Watch version is
well designed for the small
screen, and the app looks
gorgeous no matter your device.
The default Mac
menu bar calendar
isn’t much use.
Itsycal is much better, displaying
a full month-to-month view when
you expand the app. You can
include upcoming calendar
events so you never miss an
appointment, customise how you
want it to look in the menu bar,
and enable Dark Mode if you like.
Calculations can
get complicated, but
Soulver lets you use
plain language to work out things
like your earnings based on
hours worked and your hourly
rate, or your returns on
investment based on the interest
rate and time invested. It’s clever,
quick and customisable, and
makes quick maths pain free.
Few apps combine
reminders, to-do lists
and calendars as well
as TickTick. It comes with the
standard fare with extra flair,
and we love its flexibility. You
can adjust calendar views,
set flexible reminders, and
customise task orders and
sub-tasks. It’s an all-in-one app
to help keep you organised.
