odicalMilitär-Wochenblattananonymousregimentcommandermentionedade-
creasinginterestfortheBJDactivitiesinasouthGermansmalltown.²⁶Through
theannouncementofabattlefieldtourinWörth(Frœschwiller-Wœrth)inthe
summerof 1912 ,theofficercouldonceagainattractmoreparticipants.Theinter-
estedyoungboysonlycouldparticipateaftertheyhadjoinedthepreparatory
weeklygatheringsthroughoutthespringof 1912 thatincludedaseriesofamili-
taryhistorylecturesonthebattleofWörthin1 87 0.Itwassuggestedbytheanon-
ymousauthorthatthesecoursesbebasedonthebattlefieldguidebookbyRudolf
Mohr.²⁷WithinshorttimethenumberofparticipantsintheseBJDgatheringshad
doubledandtheyoungboyshadattendedtheclasswithenthusiasm.Theanon-
ymousauthorproposedthestimulationofthejuvenileenthusiasmforpatriotic
indoctrinationbytheuseofthe 1870 /71wareventsasoneofthebestmethodsto
attractyouth.Indeed,hedidnotmentionthepossiblehiddenresistanceofsome
ofthoseboysresultingfromtheSouthGermanexperienceintheNapoleonic
Warsandin 1866 ,whentheSouthernprincipalitieshadbeentheenemiesof
Prussia.GermanmilitaryhistorylecturesintheBJDhadtobeselectedcarefully
accordingtothelocalconditions.
ThemilitarygarrisoncommandersalsotriedtoincorporatetheBJDforma-
tionsintopatrioticevents.InFreiburg,evenbeforethefoundationoftheBJD,
