depend on your vision, as well as factors
like time of day and the context.
Every building you stand in, and every
piece of public space you occupy, has
been designed by someone. The
architect, landscape architect or town
planner has spent years thinking about
how you experience a space, and how
spaces will work in connection with
each other. Knowing this, you can begin
to decode the buildings that form the
urban fabric around you.
Look for clues in buildings. It’s no
coincidence that the walls of buildings
next to each other line up, or that the
paving around them is aligned with the
