Narrative: On February 26, 1980, Moroccan warplanes twice flew over Nouadhibou,
Mauritania, and surrounding military bases, violating Mauritanian airspace. Mean-
while, a Moroccan warship was sighted off the coast of Nouadhibou. On July 29, a
20-minute attack was carried out by the Moroccan air force on the Mauritanian mili-
tary positions in Nouadhibou and Bouera. All of these efforts were to thwart Polisario
rebels who taken refuge across the border from Morocco.
