EUROPEAN OPEN UNIVERSITY
POWERLIFTING CUP 2023
ALBI, FRANCE
MARCH 16-18, 2023
A total of 123 athletes representing their universities, forming a group of
64 male athletes and 59 female athletes, came from 10 countries across
Europe to take part in the European Open University Powerlifting Cup.
The 4th edition of the European
University Cup in Classic
Powerlifting was held in Albi,
France, between March 16th
and 18th. Throughout the three
days of competition, women
competed in 6 categories, from
-47 kg to +84 kg, and men also
competed in 6 categories, from
-59 kg to +120 kg.
A number of university
records were broken during
the competition. The first one
was set by Ellen B. Akesson
(Linkoping University, SWE)
in the 63 kg category with
a deadlift of 192.5 kg and in
the bench press with 100 kg.
She was followed by Mathilde
Rosse (University of Grenoble,
FRA), who broke the -63 kg
EUSA squat record with 165 kg.
In addition, Nusa Zekeznik
(University of Ljubljana, SLO)
won gold in the -84 kg category
with an EUSA squat record of
168 kg.
In the -76 kg weight category,
the gold medal was won by
Machwate Emma (University of
Strasbourg, FRA) with a total of
425 kg, breaking the European
University Record Deadlift with
195 kg. The 84+ kg was the last
session in the women’s weight
class category, where Mmadi
Salma (University of Toulouse,
FRA) won the gold medal
while breaking the European
University Record Deadlift with
175.5 kg.
The Swedish athletes broke
a number of records in the
men’s division, with Mattias
Svensson (Lund University,
SWE) breaking the European
University Record Deadlift with
320.5 kg in the -93 kg men.
Followed by Andreas Nilsson
(Lund University, SWE), who
emerged as champion with
740 kg, breaking the European
University Record Bench Press
with 185 kg.
On the final day, the men’s
-105 kg weight classes A
and B category concluded,
with Johansson Emil (Umea
University, SWE) taking gold
and setting a new 105 kg EUSA
squat record of 293 kg. Followed
by Eliam Chandeu (University of
Lyon, FRA), he set a new EUSA
bench record of 188 kg and a
new deadlift record of 326 kg.
The event was held under
the auspices of the European
Powerlifting Federation (EPF)
and the French Powerlifting
Federation (FPF), under the
patronage of the European
University Sports Association
(EUSA), as an open cup. The
next University Cup competition
will be held in Nancy, France,
from February 29 to March 3,
2024.
